Ἄρκτου μεγάλης

Ταύτην Ἡσίοδός φησι Λυκάονος θυγατέρα ἐν Ἀρκαδίᾳ οἰκεῖν, ἑλέσθαι δὲ μετὰ Ἀρτέμιδος τὴν περὶ τὰς θήρας ἀγωγὴν ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσι ποιεῖσθαι· φθαρεῖσαν δὲ ὑπὸ Διὸς ἐμμεῖναι λανθάνουσαν τὴν Θεόν· φωραθῆναι δὲ ὕστερον ἐπίτοκον ἤδη οὖσαν ὀφθεῖσαν ὑπ’ αὐτῆς λουομένην· ἐφ’ ᾧ ὀργισθεῖσαν τὴν Θεὸν ἀποθηριῶσαι αὐτήν· καὶ οὕτως τεκεῖν ἄρκτον γενομένην τὸν κληθέντα Ἀρκάδα· οὖσαν δ’ ἐν τῷ ὄρει θηρευθῆναι ὑπὸ αἰπόλων τινῶν καὶ παραδοθῆναι μετὰ τοῦ βρέφους τῷ Λυκάονι· μετὰ χρόνον δέ τινα δόξαι εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸ τοῦ Διὸς ἄβατον [ἱερὸν] ἀγνοήσασαν τὸν νόμον· ὑπὸ δὲ τοῦ ἰδίου υἱοῦ διωκομένcν καὶ τῶν Ἀρκάδων, καὶ ἀναιρεῖσθαι μέλλουσαν διὰ τὸν εἰρημένον νόμον, ὁ Ζεὺς διὰ τὴν συγγένειαν αὐτὴν ἐξείλετο καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἄστροις αὐτὴν ἔθηκεν· Ἄρκτον δὲ αὐτὴν ὠνόμασε διὰ τὸ συμβεβηκὸς αὐτῇ σύμπτωμα.

Ἔχει δὲ ἀστέρας ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς ζ′ ἀμαυρούς, ἐφ’ ἑκατέρων ὠτίων β′, ἐπ’ ὠμοπλατῶν λαμπρὸν α′, ἐπὶ τοῦ στήθους α′, ἐπὶ τοῦ ἔμπροσθεν ποδὸς β′, ἐπὶ τῆς ῥάχεως λαμπρὸν α′, ἐπὶ τῆς κοιλίας λαμπρὸν α′, ἐπὶ σκέλεσιν ὀπισθίοις β′, ἐπ’ ἄκρῳ τῷ ποδὶ β′, ἐπὶ τῆς κέρκου γ′· τοὺς πάντας κδ′.

おおぐま座 (ギリシャ語直訳版)

　　ヘシオドスは、この星座(おおぐま)はリュカオノスの娘で、アルカディアに住んでいたと伝える。彼女は、女神アルテミスと一緒に狩猟をしていた。彼女はゼウスによって誘惑されたが、女神にはそれを隠していました。しかしその後、妊娠の兆候が現れ、水浴びをしているときに(見つかり)、女神の怒りを買い、女神は彼女を滅ぼした(クマに変えた)。 こうして、アルカーダ(Ἀρκάδα)と呼ばれる子クマが生まれた。

その後、彼女は山でヤギ飼いによって追い詰められ、赤ん坊とともにリュカオンに引き渡された。しばらくして、彼女が法を無視してゼウスの聖域に入ったとき、自分の息子とアルカデイア人から、法により罰しようとして追われた。ゼウスは(彼女と息子が)親子関係にあることから彼女を救い、星の中に置いた。彼は彼女の受けた状況にちなんで、それをアークトン( Ἄρκτον)と名付けました。

注：Halmaは彼女を救った理由を「ジュピターは彼の愛を思い出し」と訳しているが、ギリシャ語では「ゼウスは親族関係から」からとなっており、誤訳と思われる。

Hésiode dit qu'elle était fille de Lycaon, et qu'elle habita l'Arcadie, mais que sa passion pour la chasse l'entraînant à la suite de Diane dans les montagnes, elle fut séduite par Jupiter; elle n'en dit rien à cette déesse, mais sa grossesse avançant, et prête d'accoucher, elle fut découverte dans le bain par la déesse qui, furieuse, la changea en ourse; qu'ainsi changée elle mit au monde un fils qui fut nommé Arcas.

Elle fut rencontrée avec cet enfant dans les montages, par des bergers qui la menèrent a Lycaon. Peu de temps après, elle se réfugia dans le temple de Jupiter où il n’était pas Permis d'entrer. Son fils Arcas et les Arcadiens l'y poursuivirent pour la punir d'avoir enfreint la loi; mais Jupiter se ressouvenant de son amour, la plaça au ciel:

elle a sept étoiles obscures, deux à la tête, deux à chaque oreille, une brillante à l'épaule, deux à la poitrine, une belle à l'épine, deux aux jambes de devant, deux à celles de derrière, deux au bout du pied, trois à la queue; en tout vingt-quatre.

The big Bear

Hesiode said that she was girl of Lycaon, and that she lived in the Arcadie, but that its passion for the hunting attract her to the following of Diana in the Mountains, she was seduced by Jupiter; she didn't say of it anything to this goddess, but its pregnancy advancing, and ready of to deliver, she was discovered in the bath by the goddess who furious, changed it in bear; that thus changed she put the world a son who was named Arcas.

She was encountered with this child in the montages, by some shepherds who led her to Lycaon.Few time after, she took refuge in the temple of Jupiter where she was not allowed to enter. Her son Arcas and the Arcadiens pursued her there for her punish of having contravened the law; but Jupiter remembering of its love, placed it to the sky:

She has seven dark stars, two to the head, two to every ear, a brilliant to the shoulder, two to the chest, a lovely to the thorn, two to the legs of front, two to those of behind, two to the tip of foot, three to the tail; in all twenty-four.

　Porro, cum in montibus vagaretur, a quibusdam pastoribus comprehensa, cum infante ad Lycaonem adducta est pro munere. Post aliquantum temporis in Jovis templum , quo eam nefas erat intrare , se conjecit, et, cum Arcas filius et Arcades secuti cam interficere conarentur, propter legem violatam, Jupiter memor consuetudinis, eam eripuit , et in astris collocavit, Ursamque nominavit propter id quod evenerat.
