Περὶ τοῦ Βοώτου τοῦ καὶ Ἀρκτοφύλακος

Περὶ τούτου λέγεται ὅτι Ἀρκάς ἐστιν ὁ Καλλιστοῦς καὶ Διὸς γεγονώς, ᾤκησε δὲ περὶ τὸ Λύκαιον φθείραντος αὐτὴν Διός· οὗ προσποιησάμενος ὁ Λυκάων τὸν Δία ἐξένιζεν, ὥς φησιν Ἡσίοδος, καὶ τὸ βρέφος κατακόψας, παρέθηκεν ἐπὶ τὴν τράπεζαν· ὅθεν ἐκείνην μὲν ἀνατρέπει, ἀφ’ οὗ ἡ Τραπεζοῦς καλεῖται πόλις, τὴν δὲ οἰκίαν ἐκεραύνωσε, τὸν δὲ Λυκάονα ἀπεθηρίωσε καὶ αὐτὸν λύκον ἐποίησε· τὸν δὲ Ἀρκάδα πάλιν ἀναπλάσας ἔθηκεν ἄρτιον· καὶ ἐτράφη παρ’ αἰπόλῳ· νεανίσκος δ’ ὢν ἤδη δοκεῖ καταδραμεῖν εἰς τὸ Λύκαιον καὶ ἀγνοήσας τὴν μητέρα γῆμαι· οἱ δὲ κατοικοῦντες τὸν τόπον ἀμφοτέρους κατὰ νόμον θύειν ἔμελλον· ὁ δὲ Ζεὺς ἐξελόμενος αὐτοὺς διὰ τὴν συγγένειαν εἰς τὰ ἄστρα ἀνήγαγεν.
　

Ἔχει δ’ ἀστέρας ἐπὶ μὲν τῆς δεξιᾶς χειρὸς δ′, οἳ οὐ δύνουσιν, ἐπὶ δὲ τῆς κεφαλῆς λαμπρὸν α′, ἐφ’ ἑκατέρων τῶν ὤμων λαμπρὸν α′, ἐπὶ τῶν μαστῶν ἑκατέρων α′, λαμπρὸν τὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ὑπ’ αὐτὸν α′ ἀμαυρόν, καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ ἀγκῶνος δεξιοῦ α′ λαμπρόν, ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν γονάτων α λαμπρότατον, ὃς δὴ Ἀρκτοῦρος καλεῖται, ἐφ’ ἑκατέρῳ ποδὶ λαμπρὸν α′· τοὺς πάντας ιδ′.

うしかい座 本題「熊の守護者」 (ギリシャ語直訳版)

　これはゼウスとカリストの子、アルカスといわれている。リュカオンは、ゼウスが彼と分からせないようにしていると思い、リュカオンはゼウスを知らないふりをしました。そして、ヘシオドスが云うように、リュカオンは殺した幼児をテーブルの上に横えましたが、ゼウスはそれをひっくり返りました。そこからこの都市はトラペズス(四角形/テーブル)と呼ばれます。彼(ゼウス)は家を破壊し、リュカオンを殺し、彼を狼にしました。 また、ゼウスはアルカスを再び復活させ、アルカスはヤギ使いにより育てられました。母親はリュカイオンの聖地へ逃げ込んでおり、(アルカスは)母親を知らずに若者に育ちました。しかし、その場所の住民は法律に従って両方ともに犠牲にしようとしたが、ゼウスは(アルカスとカリストの)親族関係から彼らを星に上げました。

　星座の右手には４星があり、彼らは沈まない。頭の上には明るい星が１個あり、両肩には明るい星が１星づつあり、胸には明るい星が１星あり、右手とその下には暗い星が１星あります。そして右肘には明るい星が１星、膝の間にはアルクトゥルスと呼ばれる明るい星が１星、両足には明るい星が１星づつあります。全部で14個の星がある
