Αἰγoκέρωτος

Οὗτός ἐστι τῷ εἴδει ὅμοιος τῷ Αἰγίπανι· ἐξ ἐκείνου δὲ γέγονεν· ἔχει δὲ θηρίου τὰ κάτω μέρη καὶ κέρατα ἐπὶ τῇ κεφαλῇ· ἐτιμήθη δὲ διὰ τὸ σύντροφον εἶναι τῷ Διί, καθάπερ Ἐπιμενίδης ὁ τὰ Κρητικὰ ἱστορῶν φησίν, ὅτι ἐν τῇ Ἴδῃ συνῆν αὐτῷ, ὅτε ἐπὶ τοὺς Τιτᾶνας ἐστράτευσεν. Οὗτος δὲ δοκεῖ εὑρεῖν τὸν κόχλον, ἐν ᾧ τοὺς συμμάχους καθώπλισε διὰ τὸ τοῦ ἤχου Πανικὸν καλούμενον, ὃ οἱ Τιτᾶνες ἔφυγον· παραλαβὼν δὲ τὴν ἀρχὴν ὁ Ζεὺς ἐν τοῖς ἄστροις αὐτὸν ἔθηκε καὶ τὴν αἶγα τὴν μητέρα. Διὰ δὲ τὸν κόχλον ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ εὑρεῖν παράσημον ἔχει ἰχθύος οὐράν.
　

Ἔχει δ’ ἀστέρας ἐφ’ ἑκατέρου κέρατος α′, ἐπὶ τοῦ μυκτῆρος α′ λαμπρόν, ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς β′, ὑπὸ τράχηλον α′, ἐπὶ στήθους β′, ἐπ’ ἐμπροσθίου ποδὸς α′, ἐπ’ ἄκρου ποδὸς α′, ἐπὶ ῥάχεως ζ′, ἐπὶ γαστρὸς ε′, ἐπ’ οὐρᾶς β′ λαμπρούς· τοὺς πάντας κδ′.

Le capricorne ressemble à Egipan son père, il a des jambes de bouc et des cornes sur la tête. Cet honneur lui fut accorde, parce qu'il avait été nourri avec Jupiter, selon ce qu’écrit Epiménide dans son histoire de Créte, car il était avec Jupiter sur le mont Ida, quand Jupiter partit pour la guerre contre les Titans.
